The Kirstenbosch Bookshop is South Africa’s leading stockist of botanical, natural history and local culture books. We stock a wide range of books on indigenous flora and gardening including the Kirstenbosch GROW series and Botanical Society Wildflower Guides.
Our beautiful range of botanical art, stationery and gifts celebrates South Africa’s incredible biodiversity and supports local artists and partner organisations.
Our children’s section features the broadest range of southern African natural history and cultural history reference books and local story books for all ages, plus a carefully selected range of CDs, DVDs, puzzles, colouring books and other beautiful gifts for the environmentally conscious child.
Originally formed in the mid-1980s as a partnership between Kirstenbosch and the Botanical Society to sell botanical and horticultural books, tourist guides and gifts to visitors to the Garden, the Kirstenbosch Bookshop has become a well-known destination bookshop.
BotSoc’s Kirstenbosch Branch took over the running of the operation in 1991. The Bookshop has four fantastic permanent staff members and also receives great support from our Volunteers. The Kirstenbosch Bookshop hosts book launches as well as a range of activities for children including story readings by local children’s authors and educational and creative activities during Kirstenbosch’s annual Winter Wonders Programme.
All profits generated by the Kirstenbosch Bookshop are directed to fundraising projects for the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and the Botanical Society of SA.
Botanical Society members qualify for 10% discount on their purchases on production of a valid BotSoc membership card.
